1Understanding Volume

Volume is the number of unit cubes that fill a solid. We use the formula
V = l × w × h.

Example: l = 4w = 3h = 2
V = l × w × h
= 4 × 3 × 2 = 24
24 unit cubes

2Find the Volume

Use V = l × w × h to find the volume of each rectangular prism.

Example: l = 5w = 2h = 3
V = l × w × h
= 5 × 2 × 3 = 30
30 unit cubes

3Solve Word Problems

Use the formula V = l × w × h to solve real-world problems.

Example: l = 8 cmw = 4h = 5
V = 8 × 4 × 5
= 160
160 cm³

4Try It Yourself

Find the volume of each rectangular prism.
Use V = l × w × h.

a) l = 4w = 2h = 3
b) l = 6w = 3h = 2
